What is the difference between an external USB HDD and an internal HDD? Clarification in the post!

I use external USB drives for backup. But I also have an easy enclosure for an internal 2.5 or 3.5 inch HDD. The enclosure sits on the desk, has a little adapter power supply and an USB 3.0 port, so I can use either type of drive for my backups.

I’m curious why the internal drives are more expensive. Are they of better quality, or is something different? For example,

This 4TB drive has an enclosure, the ports, an adapter, everything you need to go.

Whereas this drive:

… is just a bare internal 4TB drive, but it’s more expensive, despite not having the ports and the adapter and enclosure, etc.

What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any enlightenment!

Hello,

Not sure on that since the prices may vary depending on the store that you are buying it.

For example, that same internal drive 4 TB is 199 on Newegg ( WD Desktop Mainstream 4TB IntelliPower 3.5" Hard Drive - Newegg.com ) That internal drive has 64 mb cache size.
