WD1000C033-001 Lost Installation Disk

I have a WD My Book model WD1000C033-001.  I cannot get my Win7 Pro to recognize the drive.  It shows up in Device Manager as a “WD My Book USB Device” under Disc Drives and as a “WD SES Device” under WD Drive Management devices but neither Windows Explorer or Data Lifeguard Tools can locate the drive.  I connected to my PC via a USB cable.   I cannot locate my original installation disc so I am reluctant to uninstall the two shown devices and try to reinatall.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can download all the apps and drivers here http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?wdc_lang=en .

Have you already checked the drive status under disk management?

I have not been able to get the drive recognized by any disc management programs.  I have tried HDDSCAN, HdSentinel, WD RaidManager and WD Data Lifeguard but none were able to access the My Book drive.

What might I try next?

Click start/Right click comp/click manage/disk management

If not detected try diff cable, if still not detected then your drive failed already.

The disc does not appear in Disk Management.  Now what can I do?

Make sure that the drives power adapter is directly connected to a wall outlet. Also in the device manager under universal serial bus controller can you see any yellow triangle icon? If yes. then you just need to download wd ses driver. If no, then the drive already failed. call tech support if you are still in warranty for a replacement.

An interesting development that might give you a clue as to how I might fix this problem - I disconnceted the My Book from my desktop PC and connected it at another location to my Dell laptop.  The drive was quickly recognized in Devices and Printers but the driver was missing.  I ran the Troubleshooter and it identified the problem and installed the driver.  The drive had installed as logical disk D.  The device worked perfectly and I was able to access the files on the drive via Windows Explorer.

I then disconnected the device from my laptop and again connected it to my desktop PC.  It now appears in Divices and Printers and says that it is working properly in Properties. It appears as a Disk Drive in Device Management.  It cannot be accessed in Disk Manager. It does not appear in Computer.  I cannot access it in Windows Explorer.

What do I need to do to acess and use this device on my desktop PC?
