4 TB passport carries out backups ok yet on entering utilities it requests select a drive from a blank page.
HI,
Are you referring to WD Drive Utilities? It should show your drive at the top of the page. Does your drive show up in Windows File Explorer? How about WD Security? You may have to do a setup over. Can you supply other information? OS, PC type, Brand?

Hi thank you for your response to my confusion Clifford. When clicking on Utilities there is a message select drive at the top of the page , but it does not display any drives. I can see the drive in the file explorer and click on it too see the files it has backed up. Unfortunately I am running windows 10 which I hate with a passion on a fast relatively new PC. I tried to reinstall the drive .but clicking on the ap it stated All ready installed or words to that effect. If I had managed to redo the setup would that have effected my backed up data that is already on the WD drive. By that I mean would the data be over written or would a new sector be created therefor loosing the 30 gb of space it uses. I haven’t used the securities feature. or the cloud feature but I do get a page come up on a pc reboot stating "no disc attached for cloud "which I would expect because I down load from the pc only and I dont need that feature. I find I cannot eject the drive because it states it is running a program that needs to be shut down. So after a backup , I now shut down the pc then unplug the drive from it. Roy
Hi,
It appears you are using Drag and Drop to copy/move files to the Passport rather than WD software. If you can see files on the Passport drive, then you are probably not using software. If you use software, which one: either WD Backup or WD Smartware? And it would have to recognize the drive!
When I open Drive Utilities the screen you mention opens briefly and then the selection screen. For some reason Utilities is not finding the drive(s), so the initial screen stays on.
I don’t think you can use the cloud on Passport. It requires a special drive.
I’m not sure what drive ‘setup’ you used. WD software requires a setup using a program on the drive. That is usually a one time thing.
Overall, it seems there is a defect with the Passport. Try contacting WD Support.

Thank you again for the reply. When I click on Back up it does show the drive. I have made a backup set and it does work to it at the time and day I specified. So at least that part is functioning. Although I can see the drive in file explorer, and open it up to view the Backed up files files I have not tried to open move or added any. Sorry if I mislead you… Using windows 10 seems to create several problems every time an update occurs. Thats why I have not tried to use the security password section. In case they screw that up and I cannot get in. It seems win 10 hates anything that is a bit different . Many thanks Roy
