I have an older iMac, using 10.6.8 because if I upgrade it I can’t use my Creative Suite programs anymore. (I am retired from my graphic design career but still use these programs for personal things, especially PhotoShop for family photos.) I also don’t want to put any more money into my Mac because I am in my 60’s and in February of 2017 my hard drive crashed; in order to save over 400 GB of my family photos I sent my crashed drive in for recovery. They told me this WD Passport (provided by the recovery people) only works as a storage drive but I have to unlock it every time the computer is shut down OR, as recently happened, the power went off three times in a week–once due to a storm.
My problem is, since the last power outage, I hadn’t unlocked it; I did so today and as soon as it unlocked and I hit ‘close’, the shortcut/icon on the desktop disappeared. I have searched for the “WD Unlocker” application on my computer AND the Passport, with no success! I also cannot find any download available that would work on this operating system; I am currently copying my recovery files to my iMac 1T hard drive (I’ve also backed up most of it on DVDs in February 2017.) The reason I am doing this is because if the power goes off in the near future, I am afraid I won’t even be able to access the drive because I have no way to unlock it!! I do have the password but don’t understand why the program disappeared. Can anyone help?? TIA!
