WD smartware new version for my book essential, is upgrading from 1.6.5 recommanded or not?

Hi I read several issues of wd smartware not backuping all files in versions 2.X I’m currentely running version 1.6.5 and the only problem I have is not allowing windows 7 system to move automatically to sleepmode, a thing that wasn’t exists in prior version to 1.6.5 that I had. I would like to know if you recomnad me to upgrade anyway, or this will be not wise. In addition I would like to know whether it is possible to downgrade to 1.6.5 again if I found the newer versions more problematic than the earlier, and how can I do it safely?

1.6.5 is no longer available on WD’s site as they always replace the latest smartware build, so unless you have a copy of the installer on your drive or your computer then you’ll lose it. If smartware works fine on your system and don’t need any of the options added on 2.0 like the schedule option then you’re more than fine with the version you have.

If it’s not broken then don’t fix it.

Well thanks for you suggeston , problem is 1.6.5 is partitialy broken, as windows 7 is not able to move to sleep mode automatically anymore. I guess problems like not backuping all files is more serious, but still I wonder when WD will manage to solve these problems. Frankly I’m thinking of buying new external drive of other manufacturer with more reliable software.

My solution was to not use smartware at all, I mean windows 7 has a mirror backup option on the control panel that copies the entire system, so it just beats smartware to the ground. I can see people with xp or maybe vista using smartware, but why use it on windows 7 or windows 8 when they include much better backup options in the systems?

Smartware is not even updated for mac after version 1.3 and wd tells people to use time machine, so why not do the same on windoews?
