WD passport not readable by my computer

Seems like the same thing posted over and over… but I just want to make sure Im getting this right…Im guessing I need to contact a data recovery company-  I have data I have got to recover from the external drive-

first, the message comes up when I plug it in that “drive is not readable by your computer, quit or ignore”

I have found its not the cable issue, several diff. cables and its recognized in disk utilities,  but wont let me pic “verify or restore”  both are blanked out-    and when I try to run my recovery software, it says no data is found-   reformatting is not an option, as I can not lose the data-

My question is -  "is there any other solutions, or is data recovery companies the only option?

You didn’t mention your OS how you copied files or what recovery software. Does it say anything in disk management like raw or unallocated? Maybe a Linux live CD would work it doesn’t actually install on PC.

Try connecting the drive to a different computer (if possible windows) to recover the files. Have you tried using  Mini Tool Data Recovery.

if you’ve blown out the partition, then a partition recovery software might work.  at least you can get most of the data back.  corruption is corruption, and data recovery won’t fix that.
