Hello everybody
I have bought the 4TB Passport (the new designed) and the 4TB Elements (portable) drives recently.
I normally check the drive before use under linux using smartctl.
When I ran this on the 4TB Elements drive, it reported that SMART was not supported? Is this correct?
I haven’t run this on the 4TB Passport yet - but would like to know before I open the box to give me chance to return it.
Thanks
BTW I should have mentioned that SMART is an acronym and stands for Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology - it’s built into most most ATA/SATA and SCSI/SAS hard drives and solid-state drives. It allows you to check the health of the drive and foresee (and more importantly take preventative actions) before they arise.
I have other 3.5" internal and external drives by WD and they all support SMART. This is the first WD drive I have come across that does not seem to.
