WD MyBook Essential Edition 2.0 somedays won't mount

i have struggled with this external HD for quite sometime now. i thought the trouble was over when i finally got it reformated to mac. 

but it seems that did not solve the problem.

it seems to have a mind of it’s own.

some days it mounts, some days it doesn’t. WHY?

the HD light stays on when my mac is on, the HD light goes off when the mac goes off… which is normal but it’s not mounting (not being recognized by mac).

Did you try different USB ports or cables? It could be a power issue also try moving the plug to a different receptacle. I don’t know about Macs so can’t help you much more.

i can’t try different cables because i don’t have them.

i did try different usb and power outlets. no go.

i looked it up and it says it does work with mac OS 10.4 or later which is what i have.

before i got my mac it was working fine with my windows pc. so then it can’t be a cord problem. right?

does it have something to do with firewire?
