WD MyBook 4TB says it is full when I try to backup... after formatting

Hi there,

A while ago, I bought 2 WD My Book external drives, both 4TB. I used one of them as a backup drive on my previous pc. However, due to switching to another pc, I want to use it there as my backup drive. Therefore, I connected it, formatted all the data on it (didn’t change the name and it’s still NTFS, as before) and tried to use it to start a new backup scheme with the WD backup software.

However much I try, I keep getting the message that there’s not enough space available or that the disk is full and he stops the backup after a few seconds. The WD Backup.swstor map is created, but there are no actual files in it. Considering I formatted the drive and there should be 3,63 TB available, somethings going wrong.

Of course, I tried several things and Googled for a few hours, but I can’t find a solution. Is there anybody here who can tell me wat I might be doing wrong?

Kind regards,
Sander Blom

Hi,

Do you have the data saved any place else? If so, go to WD Utilities and check the tests. If it fails consider running Disk Erase in WD Utilities and restart from scratch. If that is what you did for “formatting”, then I can’t help you. Contact Support.

If no backup data available, you may have to do a Data Recovery. Search Knowledge Base for Data Recovery for list of approved recovery companies.
