Have a WD My Passport Studio and it is nothing short of a pain in the **bleep**. Constantly freezes if left connected for more than five minutes - totally unreliable - constantly have to force eject - this was a total waste of money and after looking at all the problems posted on this forum - what more can be said other than it’s lousey unreliable product - going back to iOmega - at least they help and back their product up. WD is not fit for a MAC of any kind.
We are sorry to find out you had such a bad experience with the drive.
Have you tried troubleshooting the issue to determine if there’s a cable, power or drive problem?
You can try testing the drive on a different computer or different cable.
Our My Passport Studio drives are fully compatible with Mac and we will like to assure you that your case is not usual.
Thanks for your input.
I was called by a WD representative who listened to my complaint and who attempted to help me sort it out. I will also add the he (WD) kindly offered to replace the drive. However as I was not complaining in order to get a free replacement, instead we tried to solve the problem. I have two differenf Mac computers (one brand new) and the Passport Studio drive encountered the same problem on both - namely being that when the drive is left connected to the computer for more than five minutes after doing any sort of backup (small or large) the drive freezes and has to be forces ejected - tried it on a friend’s Mac computer and it did the same.
The WD rep suggested we wipe and re-partition the drive and see if it worked better - this we did and we backed up a file to each partition and ejected the drive - all seemingly went well. But later when I backed up and left the drive connected for more than 5 minutes after the backup, I had to force eject again - same problem, same hassle - time has come for a faster backup drive anyway, so I will now look elsewhere - probably back to iOmega…
Thanks for the help.
I am happy to say that WD make a genuine effort to solve the problem - an engineer call and we tried several attempts sort thing out, but to no avail. The drive still had to be force ejected after each attempt to use it. Eventually WD contacted me and offered to give me a full refund, which they promptly did by electronically depositing the rufund to my account . I would therefore like to thank the company for backing up and standing behind their word and product in such a manner.
Thank you WD.
