Hi, I have a WD My Passport 2TB drive. I’ve been doing some film work I last backed up two months ago, unfortunately. The drive is nearly full and probably a third isn’t backed up. I need someway to recover these files as there is no way for me to replace them. I was transferring a picture over to the drive and the drive started working very slowly then stopped altogether and I lost access to it. Sometimes I can get the drive to be recognized in disk management but it says it’s in RAW format and shows the drive as being 100% free of data. If I try to access the drive through explorer it freezes explorer. I’m using windows 10. Errors I’ve received are: D:\ is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect. OR The remote procedure call failed OR D:\ is unavailable. I’ve been trying Chkdsk or scan now through CMD which both failed. I’ve also tried some data recovery software but when I scan nothing shows up. I’m kind of at the end of my rope and abilities. Can someone please suggest what I can do? I’m looking for a data recovery service but seems like it could be thousands of dollars. I’ll have to do it if there are no other options for me but I don’t have cash like that to throw around. If anyone can help please let me know! Thanks!
Sometimes there is Windows cannot access the disk error occurs in the system. Usually, this type of error is associated with Windows Explorer, but the reasons can be improper operations, virus, or even a faulty power connection. However, to fix this problem you can try the below methods:
- Check your drive connection
- Change your drive letter
- Run CHKDSK in Command Prompt
Further, you can also check the below link for better understanding on issue & how to fix the same:
Hope it helps!
Hi!
It probably is a long shot, but have you tried to change the driver letter? Sometimes this helps.
Maybe this article can help you recover your data:
But, if you still can’t fix it on your own, you can contact data recovery experts for a free in-lab evaluation.
Hi,
If you are seeing your drive is in raw format there are ways to fix a RAW hard drive vary, depending on your hard drive condition.
Method 1. Fix RAW External Hard Drive Without Formatting
If the drive shows RAW but still has a drive letter, you can try to fix the RAW hard drive without formatting it using CMD. With CHKDSK, you have a chance to fix your RAW hard drive without formatting it. Some people might say that CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives, but that’s not true. If your external hard drive appears with a drive letter, you can use CMD to try and fix it. If your external hard drive is shown as RAW without a drive letter, follow method 2 instead.
Step 1. Connect your RAW external hard drive to your computer.
Step 2. Click the “search” icon in the taskbar and type cmd. Then, right-click “Command Prompt” and choose “Run as administrator”.
Step 3. Enter chkdsk G: /f and hit Enter to fix your RAW external hard drive. (G is the drive letter of your RAW drive.)
After the repairing process, you can open Disk Management to check if your hard drive is repaired. If CHKDSK is not working don’t worry.
Method 2: You can format the drive, before formatting the drive it is important to recover your files or data. There are various data recovery software available in the market . Some of the software free version is available which helps to recover 1 GB of data free of cost. Some software have the option to recover 2 GB of Data as well. So you can try that.
