I hope I am in the correct section.
My Book Essential is not working. It has not been used for some time, but when I plug it in, the round disc on the front, just flickers, looks like it is spinning, but it will not turn blue and connect with the laptop. The drive is not being recognised at all. Is the button/light on the front a reset button and if so how do you do it. I have tried holding it in for 20 seconds, but nothing happens.
Hi @ronecc,
There could be a few reasons why the drive is not showing up under Computer. The drive itself could have failed, the partition on the drive may be damaged, the data cable may no longer be good, or the drive may no longer be getting enough power to fully spin up.
I would request you to connect the drive with a different known working adapter in a different known working sytem.
There could be various reasons for a drive to become unresponsive or undetected. The external drive may be detected by the system if you connect it to another PC, but it doesn’t respond.
Below are the few possible reasons for this issue:
- Corrupt or unstable USB driver
- Windows is missing important updates
- USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt
- Corrupt USB drive or partition
However, you can still fix the issue and extract the files from the USB drive by attempting the below methods:
- Reboot your system - Shut down your system, remove the power cord wait for some time & then connect the power cord & boot your system.
- Try different PC or Laptop
- Re-install USB drivers
- Unplug all connected USB devices
- Fix USB root hub
