How is the life span of a HDD determined? By the date of manufacture or from the date of its first use? I have read that 3-5 years is the average. My WD my passport HDD lasted for 5 years. My cousin has a transcend HDD but he doesn’t use it normally. Now its been around more than 8 years but still its working. I don’t whats the reason behind that. Is it because the number of usage times or anything else?
