WD Firmware Updater - Doesnt recognize My Book

Firmware updater version. 3.2.4.4C
Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6

My Book PN:WDBFJK0060HBK-0A

The updater doesnt support 10.10 and beyond. Where do I find the updated firmware?

Hi xeyed4good,

WD Universal Firmware Updater for Mac is only supported in OSX 10.10 and earlier.

Obviously as I stated in my post. Where is the updated firmware to support Sierra ?

I actually came here for the same thing. Went to setup a new machine and when I try to install WD Drive software it doesn’t recognize the device. Even though when you click "about my mac and look in storage it shows the device as WD MyBook 1230 media (in my case).

I moved away from another HDD MFR because of their unwillingness to resolve an issue that existed in the product for well over a year before the end of the warranty and the response was “were working on it” which once it was outside the warranty period the response changed to “your device is no longer supported as it is no longer within warranty”.

WD has set their own imposed warranty of 2 or 3 years depending on when your purchased the device. With that, if your device is 3 years old I wouldn’t old my breath for them to do anything beyond what they are forced to do. It’s unfortunate, but is more and more a reality with these devices.

Thankfully, I had previously converted the file system to HFS+ from NTSB (which I suppose could also be part of the issue) but when I upgrade to High Sierra and the new file system I’ll back everything up on archival drives and then convert the MyBook to the new file system. I don’t anticipate any problems, but I will have a backup if I do have an issue.

You cannot convert it to the apfs is you want to use Time Machine.
