Wd elements harddrive and wd TV mini media player wont work?!?

Hi  this is my first time posting on a msg board like this but I am totally clueless and need some help!

I’ve just purchased a 2tb external wd elements hard drive and a wd TV mini media player.

I have a Mac os x version 10.6.4 and we rang apple because we were told we had to convert the hardrive for a Mac, which apple helped us do. When we plug it all into the TV all that comes up is the wd main menu, select movie, music etc and it says to enter a USB device even though everything is connected? I told my partner to try ‘restore to factory settings’ now it has just made the start screen all blurry and purple… Not sure what is happening as when we plug the hard drive into the computer we drag and drop the files and it loads OK but is not working on the TV? Any ideas??

ok, fixed the screen BUT files still not working on tv?

The reason for this might be because of the way you formatted the drive for mac usage.

When formatting the elements drive, the Format should be “Mac OS Extended”, but if you formatted for “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)”, it wont work. This is in the user manual of the TV Mini. Says that it supports NTFS, FAT 32 and HFS (no journaling).

Try formatting the external drive and change the Format, and it should work. Make sure you move all your files into a safe place before doing so, or you will lose all the information!!!

Is your device generation 1 or 2 ?

If it is 1 then wd has an issue recognizing external drives over 2 t.b.

You will be able to verify the total size of your hard drive connecting it to your Mac and access Disk Utility, it probably shows 2.19 t.b. If this is the case it is not gonna work.

We tryed changing it from mac os extended (journaled) to just mac os extended but about half way through the erasing it came up with do u want to backup time machine which then makes the erasing bar finish so therefore goes back to the original settings we had it on, i give up i have no idea how to do this

The WD TV mini unit may need a firmware update to fix the HFS+ partition harddrive problem.

Here is the link to get the firmware update and instruction on how to update the unit.

iN THIS CASE JUST GO BACK TO DISK UTILITY AND REFORMAT YOUR DRIVE WITHOUT THE JOURNALING

WHEN IT ASK YOU IF YOU WANT TO BACKUP YOUR FILES WITH TIME MACHINE ANSWER “DONT USE”.

THEN TRY AGAIN
