Hi there. I recently purchased a 1TB Elements drive as a gift for my girlfriend. I asked the salesman if this drive can be used for both PC and Mac, as I operate Mac and my girlfriend operates PC, and I was told to format the drive as Fat 32 but it seems that the drive is locked to PC formatting and unable to be reformatted. Does anyone know any way around this or am I stuck now with a drive that I can’t use?
Hi dude, you can format the drive to FAT32 using your Mac.
Close all open applications> Click on “Go” on the top> Go to Utilities> Open Disk Utility> Select your Elements on the list of drives (Take the Elements that shows the capacity)> Click on Partition> Change the Volume Scheme to 1 Partition> Click on Options> Check MBR (Master Boot Record)> Click on Format> Select MS-DOS> Click Apply/Partition.
That’s how it’s done, I also found a guide in the WD Website which is very graphic and helpful.
Let me know how it goes =D
