WD Drive Manager failing to install on OS X machines?

Are there any solutions to the problem of WD Drive Manager failing to install properly on OSX machines? I can’t ‘manage’ my MyBook Studio Edition II without this.

There are several historic threads from around 2017 on the same issue with no apparent resolution or work around. The newest WD Disk Utilties software simply doesn’t recognise the drive at all. This is a bit of a bummer frankly.

I concur – WD Drive Utilities on macOS has failed to install for years. Here’s what is reported in Terminal if you launch the WD Drive Utilities Installer by opening the WD Drive Utilities Installer.app/Content/MacOS/WD Drive Utilities Installer:

Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I find it very annoying that a perfectly good drive has in effect been rendered obsolete due to the lack of a satisfactory software management tool. As far as I can tell, the old WD Drive Manager software simply doesn’t install properly on OSX, and the newer WD Drive Utilities software won’t even recognise the disk. I’m not sure if I can even use the WD Drive Utilities software to reformat the old disk assuming I was willing to scrap its contents.
