Hello,
I have an WD Caviar terabyte, (1.0 Terabytes). The problem I have with this external drive is it worked fine for a long time until I didn’t use the device for a while, now when I connected it to my Mac, it doesn’t recognize that its plugged in. The drive buzzes and the blue light turns on, yet my Mac wont recognize it. I am running OS X 10.6.8. I have opened Disk Utility to see if it can find the drive but no luck:( I have also downloaded a drive called WD + Turbo. I have important information on this drive, and am moving to the states in two weeks!! I need my drive working before then. Please reply soon!
Hello,
If the drive is not seen when you connect it to your computer please try:
1- Connecting the power adapter to the wall directly.
2- If the computer is a desktop, connect it on the back USB port (directly to the computer, not through a hub).
3- Go to "Disk Utility” to verify if the drive shows up there.
If the drive shows up in disk utility but it is not seen on Computer, then it means the partition is corrupted and you will have to format it in order to use it again. Please note that formatting the drive will delete all data stored on it.
If the drive is not seen on disk utility and you want to recover the data on it, then I recommend that you contact a data recovery company.
Hi,
The drive is connected to a power outlet, rather the wall directly.
The drive is connected to the back of my desktop computer and not through any hubs.
Disk utility did not show the drive, however I decider to change the usb cord going from the disk to the computer and it came up straight away. I think my drive may be very temperamental
I bought a new drive and transferred my data!
Thankyou for your help!
