Here is my setup:
Windows 7 Pro SP1
MSI Z170 with M.2 M slot
I already know Windows 7 and M.2 don’t get along as a boot drive, but I’m not trying to boot from this drive I want it as my games drive and I’m booting from a Kingston SATA SSD. The bios sees the M.2 fine, and will post when booting the computer, but once the post screen clears it stops at a blinking DOS courser and I have to remove the M.2 drive to get Windows to load. Windows will not load in safe mode either and I can’t even get it to load from the CD with the M.2 installed.
Things I’ve tried:
Changing AHCI / UEFI / RAID
Installing Microsoft’s hotfix for Windows 7 M.2 compatibility
Changing the Kingston’s SATA port, I have 6 total and not one of them makes a difference.
I want to stay with Windows 7 any help is appreciated.
