Hi,
I purchased a WD Black 2230 2TB about a month ago. It was working fine until this morning when windows threw a “Unexpected Store Exception Error”. About an hour after that the laptop crashed and when I booted into BIOS it would no longer see the drive. I removed it and placed it into an external NVME enclosure. I was able to see the partitions but the drive would just disconnect as soon as i tried to perform any actions on the drive itself. What’s annoying is that it was working fine. I stupidly installed the WD Dashboard app a couple of days ago and it told me there was a firmware update available. So of course as I would with my Samsung devices I installed it. And of course 24 hours later it’s gone bad… related? Who knows. Luckily it was still within it’s 30 day return window to the seller so it’s gone back for a refund. Was I unluckly here? There are very limited options in the 2230 form factor for high capacity drives and I always buy Samsung and have zero issues… has anyone else experienced failures on these?
Hi @adamdb
Have you opened a Support Case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:
No need for a support case. The drive was returned as faulty. I was asking if anyone else had seen failures on these 2230 drives soon after purchase. Looking at various anecdotal Reddit threads it appears there’s about a 20% failure rate on this form factor… ordered a replacement from a different seller and hoping this time i get a decent one…
