Unable to update WD smartware

I have My Book Elite. I use Windows 7 x64

I have installed WD Smartware 1.5.0.17 successfully.

Then it said, “Update available”  1.5.0.1.6

Followed all instructions and everything went OK  until right at the very end it said, “Unable to install”.

Then it not only wouldn’t install but it wouldn’t let anything work.

Eventually I deleted it, cleaned the registry. Disconnected power and USB, reconnected it all.

It found the drive, and allowed me to put in 1.5.0.18

Now it says … there is an update!

Shall I just ignore it and be satisfied that its going?

OR is there an update that does install and work?

Would appreciate advice.

If everything is woking don’t bother with the firmware updates. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. You only need to update if you are having a problem with the drive or software for it.
