Storage Space - Where is it?

This was likely asked before, I couldnt find it because I didnt know what keywords to search for, basically.

Okay, I have a 3TB WD My Book Essential drive and approximately 600GB of files on here, yet the 2.72TB starting space is at 63GB now…where is everything at?

I have deleted every unused folder/file, I have hidden folders set to be shown via control panel and there are none here, so that isnt the issue.  I think it may be this “restore” file.  I have a file called “ALEX-LAPTOP” (name of my laptop) and it says it’s 1.5GB but I’ve tried deleting it and it takes very long to the point where I’ve hard reset my laptop trying to delete it because it takes so long.  It says it’s a restore file and has a little disc, HDD, and a green arrow.  Thanks.

Ive found via this program (WinDirStat) this restore file is 2TB big…that makes sense.  Now, why is my external “backing up” stuff?

Check if either Smartware (WD) or Windows Backup are active.
