After retreiving all files backed up by SmartWare onto MyPassport Ultra all Pictures report: “It looks like you don’t have permission to view this file”
I have an administrator account and my login is specifically listed as having access to the folder. I just can’t access a picture until I go into the security settings for the individual picture and change its access rights.
Is there a way to fix this rather than manually changing 100s of photos?
I don’t know why the problem happened in the first place but I did find a solution. I went to the security settings of the top-level Pictures folder and under Advanced Security settings. Then I selected my account, selected Enable inheritance, checked 'Replace all child object permissions…" and clicked on Apply.
I now have permission to read/write/edit all of my pictures.
This usually happens when recovering files from a password-protected Windows User Account. Permission properties are carried over alongside the backup, and they may need to be manually changed after retrieving.
