SmartWare Pro 2.2.1 doesn't detect my WD MyCloud on WinXP

I have just installed SmartWare Pro 2.2.1 on an old Windows XP PC and it doesn’t detect my WD MyCloud. It offers the option to perform backup to my WD Elements drive or to Dropbox.

The MyCloud is accesible in Windows Explorer and in the browser. Working fine on Win 7 machine.

Any idea on how to solve this? (Uninstall+reinstall didn’t work).

Hello,

Since the software is working on windonws 7, make sure that your Win XP are updated.

NOTE: To update to this version of WD SmartWare, you need the following minimum requirements:

  • Windows XP 32-bit Service Pack 3, Windows XP 64-bit Service Pack 2, Windows Vista, Windows 7
    or Windows 8.
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4 or higher installed on your computer.

If you don’t already have the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 installed on your computer, you will be prompted to install it.

I’m a new MyCloud owner (A Christmas present, I tried for 2 _ weeks _ to get one of my PC’s (it runs XP) to do smartview backups.)

Same problem: _ Smartview on XP doesn’t “see” the  WESTERN DIGITAL MyCloud NAS !!! _

(One of the FIRST checks I’d have expected the  Product Verification teams to do before even beta Release…)

Another (one of many complaints about this problem on this site alone, since August) topic suggests using WD anywhere Backup.

So I tried that (there’s a 30-day free trial option) and _ it _ had no problem “seeing” the MyCloud NAS and it’s now running just fine.

PROBLEM (Capitals, 'cos it’s a BIG problem!):

Why would WD expect _ me _ to PAY good money to correct a bug in it’s bleeding edge Product by using the functionality of an older Product???

Something wrong in the Customer Orientation department, I’d say.

Put simply, can anyone here from WD tell me _ when _ this problem will be fixed by, and whether or not they will issue me a FREE WD Anywhere backup use licence, so that I get the XP backup facilities from WD Anywhere in the meantime?

Or maybe I’d be better off just returning the entire MyCloud unit as NON-FUNCTIONAL ; NOT FIT FOR ADVERTISED PURPOSE?

Think I’m annoyed about this waste of my time?

You’d better believe it!

Hmmm… seems that WD are sooooooo concerned about such specification failings!

2 days and no response.

Am I, and everyone else waiting on a solution, intruding on a company extended coffee break?

5 days now; and counting.

GREAT Customer Orientation…

Hi sterlingchap, I understand your frustration, but note this is not the correct venue to request support from WD. Please click on the following link for more introductions.

Er… sorry not to be jumping through WD hoops!

I do understand that it’s crucial to you to have your CUSTOMERS(1) do as you command!

NB: I did a Google search for insight into the problems I was having and saw LOTS of others having the same experience, HERE, on your WD “Community” site.

NOTABLE (for its absence) is a SOLUTION to the WD bugs we all seem to experience!!!

Now get off your backsides and

DO SOMETHING ABOUIT THE PROBLEMS WHICH ARE SO OBVIOUS.

And cut the insolence.
