So i got this new mybook 2tb usb3 external hard drive and all is good except theres 1 thing thats annoying me sometimes. After i dont use the hard drive for some time, but leave explorer open in my Movie folder and then suddenly click a movie after that time i need to wait 20seconds+ for the hard drive to startup and the movie to start playing while my explorer is completly locked up. So im just wondering if this is normal, if its supposed to be starting up that long, because the startup time was almost unnoticable with my old hdd ? Thanks.
My guess is that the drive has probably gone to sleep and needs some time to wake back up and get spun up to speed before it can respond to a read request.
I know my drives even do this on my WDTV… if it hasn’t been used for some time, it takes some time for a drive to originally open, but after that it responds normally.
