More than a year ago I installed a 1TB WD My Book Essential (USB 2.0) om my Windows XP (SP3) machine. About a month ago I got a message from WD about a new update (software and firmware). I installed the software update (1.5.1.6) and two days later the firmware update (2.018). Some time ago I discovered that the backupprogram was not working. (I don’t know when this started). If I click on the WD icon in the system tray, and then on WD Smartware I get an errormessage: WD SmartWare has encountered a problem and needs to close. An error report for Microsoft is created. This report starts with:
Exeption Information, Code 0xe0434f4d on address 0x00000007c7e2afb.
Is this an error in SmartWare or what?
Try uninstalling smartware and then reinstalling it.
