Restore smartware

Hello all,

In error, I guess, because I knew not how to erase old files from Password X drive I Erased all!
I would br very grateful if someone could instruct me (A,B,C…) ao how I can replace Smartware software etc. to x Drive

Hi,

I’m not sure what you want here, but I’ll state how I understand it and see if I can help you.

  1. You have a MY Passport drive connected to a PC
  2. You have been using WD Smartware to backup files that are on the PC.
  3. You erased all the backup files from the MY Passport.
  4. You now want to backup from your PC again.
  5. You have somehow lost WD Smartware on your computer (It will NOT be on the MY Passport!)

If the above is not what you mean, then you probably should ignore the following.

  1. WD Smartware is now obsolete, although still available from WD.
  2. You need to download WD Smartware to your PC. To do so click on Downloads at the top of this page. You will find a list of software. Find WD Smartware near the bottom and click on it. Now carefully follow the directions to download it. You will also need WD Drive Utilities and WD Security shown in the list. Put them on your Taskbar or maybe Short Cuts on the Desktop.
  3. Now that you have Smartware you need to setup WD Drive Utilities and maybe WD Security. Click.
  4. You should now be able to run WD Smartware. Click the Help tab for instructions.

As I said, Smartware is obsolete. I recommend you use MY Backup instead. You can download WD Backup as above. The Help tab will get you started.

Thank you very much for your reply.
It sounds as though I have it completely wrong? Deleted my original old files, from Passport by Formatting drive. I thought there was some form of software on drive which, after Formatting , I should download and install on Passport Drive?
It sounds as though this is not the case?
Have downloaded all you refer to and have WD Smartware on PC. I guess now all I do is Click “Backup” tab and go from there?
As you probably guess I am no PC man(can i say that?). Initially there were quite a few bits and bobs on drive and I thought I had to reinstall similar to Passport drive.

Because you formatted the Passport drive, you completely erased ALL files on there, including the WD Smartware. Hopefully after downloading you can now backup again. The bits and bobs usually include manual.pdf, instructions in lots of different languages, EULA etc. Shouldn’t be essential. Good luck and a Merry Christmas

Thank you Andy…Havery downloaded software and My Passport all OK.
Howeverer, u knowingly, I bought two 1TB WD Drive’s. …not knowing they would not be accepted by software UNLESS I PURCHASE A LICENCE?
