ReplayGain internal calibration level on the Fuze?

Hello Sansa people,

I purchased a fuze, and I am really happy with it.  It is the first media player I have owned that has the features that matter for those working in professional audio (namely FLAC and replaygain).  I use Mediamonkey Gold 3.1 (love it) for my computer, and I notice that there is a six dB difference between the ReplayGain levels on the file tags inside of my Fuze versus in Mediamonkey.

I have Mediamonkey replaygain level set to 83dB (6dB quieter than the typical 89dB that people use).  83dB is the proper value from the replaygain standard, which in turn derives from the SMPTE RP200 playback levels standard.  I am trying to determine if the levels get reset during mediamonkey’s MSC transfer, or if it is a function within the Fuze itself.

Regardless, replaygain works as intended, regardless of the nominal playback level.

Thanks for an excellent product, and any feedback on this question that you can provide.

Although the original RG spec called for 83dB this was found to be too low for most people, and it was subsequently agreed that 89dB would be a better choice.  While some people still use the original value, most software assumes 89dB.  If you scanned and stored tags for 83dB they will be off by 6dB when used on newer software.

That’s the thing, though.  The tags on the computer are correct for 83dB, and the tags on the player are correct for 89dB.  I am wondering if this is the fuze’s doing, or if it is mediamonkey’s doing.
