So I had a problem with a partition in my wd home edition… while trying to recover the partition in one thread somewhere I read that the program in question didn’t like that much external hdd and since I wasn’t able to recover the data that way or any other way I decided to open the casing and try by connection directly to the pc…
And so I did, and that wasn’t the problem… anyhow I eventually recovered my partition and my data and began to celebrate YUUUPYYY…
But it was a short celebration… I put the hdd back into the casing and now it doesn’t work, just stays in a loop of spinning on and off…
If your drive is powered from the USB port, try using a Y-cable, if not already.
A single USB port is current limited to 500mA. A typical 2.5" drive requires around 850mA to during spin up, and about 400mA thereafter. Some USB ports are OK with that, while others are not. You may need to pick up power from two USB ports via a Y-cable.
Thanks for the sugestion, unfortunatly that’s not the case… it’s a 3.5" hdd and therefore externaly powered.
Worst case scenario I just buy another enclosure… but I really would like to keep the current one since it as a good connectivity: firewire, e-sata, usb!!!
