Question Regarding Game Mode 2.0

I’m going to begin by mentioning that this is the first PC I’ve built in about 25 years. I built a few in the 90’s. So, a bunch has changed. Including some of the terminology, so please don’t take it fore granted that I know all the current or even remember past abbreviations. If you can’t help yourself, :slightly_smiling_face: I’ll look up what I don’t know.

I’m using my WD Black SN850X 2TB for game storage. My OS, Windows 11 Pro, is loaded on a separate Samsung 990 Pro 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD.

  • Using the the WD Dashboard and setting up Game Mode 2.0, do I just point it at my Steam Library folder on my SN850X? Or do I need to point it to the individual game folders in my Steam Library folder?

Steam uses the primary SSD for games and a secondary SSD can be used as well and games can be moved back and forth. Depending on the rig de jour its possible to have 4 or more storage devices so steam can use many depending on rig capabilities.

Hi, Thanks for your response. I guess I did not present my question well. Lets see if I can make this clearer.

My question revolves around the WD Dashboard and specifically the Game Mode 2.0. To use the Game Mode feature it wants to be pointed to the Game files. I already have Steam loaded and operating on my WD Black SN850X SSD. My question is, do I need to point Gamer Mode 2.0 to each game file individually or is it enough to point to the Steam Library folder at large?

Get rid of the WD dashboard as it is unsuitable for gaming despite its branding.

Windows can handle storage fine.

Now I assume you secondary storage is D: which you can point to as a steam library volume. Steam will then create a subfolder and you can move games as needed in the steam library area.

Yes, thanks, already there. I appreciate your confirmation, I’ve seen similar comments online.

It’s been a while since i messed around with it so i cant remember if you can just add your whole game folder to game mode 2.0 like you should be able too. I think you can and add each EXE individually with it turned on. With it on auto you can right click games to add but cant remember if EXE shortcut or folder. Plus on auto it’s supposed to auto detect and enable when a game is launched. But i don’t have a clue what it actually does. Probably useless like everybody says though.
