Problems with My Passport WD 3200 ME

Hello,

Firstly I would like to tell you that I am not a native English speaker so please excuse any language problems i might have.

I bought a WD 3200 ME passport about 6 years ago. Everything went fine untill about 3 months ago. I started experencing problems with my micro-usb cable such as I had to move the cable in certain positions for the drive to be recognized.

I bought 2 new cables. Here is the problem, when i plug any of the 2 new cables, the led on my passport is turned on but My computer doesn’t recognize it. I use Windows 7 64bit.  The drive isn’t recognized in disk management and also the icon doesn’t show up in my computer. I plugged the hard drive into a laptop with windows xp but still the same result. Also it doesn’t vibrate like it used to or make sounds. I noticed that it usually makes some sounds when it is being recognized by the computer.

I remember once i kept moving the cable and lightly pressed on the passport and my laptop recognized it and I could access the files on it, but that was one time only.

Any help you could give me is much appreciated. Thank You

Hi,

Welcome to the WD Community.

According to the information that you are providing, the unit might have an issue with the connector itself. It’s possible, that the connector on the unit might be loose.

As a recommendation, (and since the unit is already out of warranty), take the unit to a electronic store to see if they can check the internal physical connection on the unit.
