Problem during initial setup of Time Machine backup on iMac

I plugged in my brand new WD Elements 2TB HDD to iMac running macOS Sierra V10.12.4. During setup of Time Machine backup it started the process seemed to delete WD Elements software then would not go any further. I unplugged and plugged back in and received error ‘The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer’.

May be you can reformat the drive and then try to use it. As this drives comes in different file system format which is not compatible with macOS. However, you can reformat the drive using the link:
