Portable drive to iPod

I recently lost my computer etc. in a tornado, that included all my music for my iPod on the computer and the empty portable drive that I was going to back it up with.So, got a new computer & My Passport ULTRA. My question is what is the best way to update iPod  with the newly downloaded music on the PASSPORT? You know how feisty those iPods can get and it’s a Classic which means it got a ton of tunes on it and I don’t want to worry about putting all those CD’s   back on the computer again! How does this work??

I believe that you will need to do that from the Itunes application.
