Permission to access files passport ultra on a different computer

Using my new passport ultra I backed up the hard drive on my Mac Book Pro with Time Machine and did the same for my wife by backing up the files on her Imac. Worked like a charm. However…

…when I plug the passport drive into my macbook I can only “see” her files, but cannot access them as I do not have “permission” (and vice-versa, when passport is plugged into her computer I can see my files but cannot access them).

How can I change this so that the files will be accessible regardless of which computer I am using?

This is the expected behavior of files copied by Apple Time Machine, irrespective of the storage device. if you would like to see or transfer files between Apple Mac OS systems, please copy the files manually into your WD Passport Ultra without using Apple Time Machine.
