I have a My Book attached to my PC which I want to use to move my iTunes library to a Mac that I’m going to buy. If I empty the My Book can I just use the machine as a regular external drive and copy files to it via explorer and then use as a drive on the Mac?

In order to use it on a Mac computer you will have to format it for Mac.
