I have an older MacBook and I wished to save my stuff on the Western Digital 2TB Passport Ultra which I got today on Boxing Day at Staples.
So far, It has been a series of failures. I have managed to set up the passport and partition it but my problem is that this passport does not stay on. It just disconnects itself and I can’t do anything. It shows up for 10 to 15 seconds on Finder and then it just disappears and powers off.
I have turned the setting on the power saver off to help it not interfere with the function,
My husband used the partition which has a part for Windows and it works well on his PC but on my MacBook I have not the same luck.
Can anyone advise what I should do to make it work on my MacBook. Thanks in advance for your replies.
I recommend you try using another cable and if possible another USB port on your computer. Also make sure the cable is plugged in correctly into the computer.
You may also try formatting the drive again.
If this does not work and you dont have another Mac to try it on then I recommend you take it back to the place of purchase and get another one.
I managed to get the disc working. I had visited some posts on Google. Here is what I did.
Uninstalled WD Utilities
I went to disk utility, then I went to WD and right clicked on it.
It said repair disk. I did that. and for some reason the disk works now.
I still don’t trust the disk so I am backing up on another one too.
But it helps take some 4000 pics off my computer which is slowing down the computer and my computer works faster now,
