my new passport loses connection from the macbook after 20-30 seconds. the power light goes off. any ideas why? All other connections and power are working.
Hi, welcome to the WD Community.
Are you able to test the unit using a different USB Cable? if possible, try a different USB port.
I have exacty the same issue…my 1tb My Passport was working fine with MAcbook Pro but today it powers off after 10-15 seconds, I’m not sure if it’s coincidental but I also upgraded to OS X 10.10.5 today… I’m in a panic becuase all my photo’s and musicare on this drive.
Virtually the same issue.
MACbook Pro, 13 inch, circa 2009 running OX X Yosemite 10.10.5
Brand new unit, received yesterday.
Ran Time Machine
Also ran Carbon Copy. Carbon Copy made a boot partition and backed up everything.
I saw the WD Diagnostics and ran SMART (passed) and Quick test.
Quick test crashed.
After that, drive went offline. Unplug, plug. Different USB ports, goes online but after a few second 10 to 20, it goes offline.
I’ve tried to catch it before it goes offline and make sure Power Down option is off, both on Drive settings (Sleep timer) as well on MAC Energy Saver settings.
I can plug it into a windows laptop and it stays online no problem.
I may try to find a USB Y cable for data/power seperation, not convinced that would help.
Hi, I bought my My Passport a few days ago, installed the software (WD Drive Utilities) which was on the hard drive and went through the update which was provided during the installation process. Afterwards the HD shut off. I tried everything I could do, used other cables, started again and again, but after a few seconds it kept shutting off. Then I deleted the installed software from my MacBook and installed WD Utilities again from the HD - this time without doing the update. Result: the HD works just fine! So the update is corrupt…
