I have a passport 1tb purchased in march 2013 it is rarely used and is totally dedicated to movie storage and has been connected to my Samsung TV successfully since purchase that is until today when mid film viewing it just shut down it no longer appears as a channel to open and access on the TV and does not show up on my computer as an external hard drive!
Any suggestions how to get it back up and working I would hate to have lost my movie collection.
The USB cable supplied with the HD has “as you know” a USB to wd HD connection i.e… Its a bit special ! I would need to go out and seek/purchase a replacement perhaps you might send me one as the HD is still under warrantee?
I can then do as you suggest!

To be frank having read a good number of reviews on this product it sounds very much to me as if the item has a fault and will need to be replaced.
I sent a request as you suggested for WD to send a replacement USB to passport cable to test your faulty product! They have not replied as far as I can tell!
I have tried to connect via my laptop and have had some success? It seems to connect for a short period of time then just shuts down !! Basically it is unreliable, WHY? It has performed very satisfactorily since purchased until few days ago.
I will try your suggestion" reluctantly" if you send a replacement cable OR you can just approve the return of this faulty product and send a replacement!
