Only External Passport Drives are not being recognized in Windows 10?

Hi,

I have a client that has several Western Digital Passport External Drives 2tb & 4tb and when they are plugged into a usb 3 port Windows 10 Pro x64 they aren’t being recognized. The WD MyBook and several flash drives are being recognized with different drive letters. I think the problem is that they are trying to grab the same drive letter and not automatically using a different drive letter thats not in use. Mainly because the drives are being seen in Disk Management, I change the drive letter and then they show.

So the problem is the WD Passport won’t grab a static drive letter that isn’t being used. I also tried a drive letter like Z and still doesn’t work each time being plugged in until the drive letter is changed in Disk Management.

Any idea how to fix this?

thanks

Hello,

I haven’t experience this case before. Are you able to update the USB drivers for the computer?

Does the same happen on a different system?

Sorry i have been really busy. It works fine on another system.

I am thinking your right on the usb drivers. I looked on the mb drivers under usb and it has a new beta version for Windows 10 that is mainly for compatibility. Also, it has a firmware update for the usb drivers as well.

ASM1142 Driver V1.16.33.1
Improve USB device compatibility, eg. Oculus VR.

ASMedia USB 3.1 FW update tool
FW versions:141231_30_02_0D
*Please unplug the power cord after firmware update.

I will try that and see if that fixes it.

thanks
