nvme format change lbaf wipes data

I was directed here from the wdc forums. My ssd is WDC PC SN520.

I was following the instructions on the arch Linux wiki about optimizing performance. I ran nvme format /dev/nvme0n1 -lbaf 1 to use 4096 byte lba. However, this wiped my disk. Is this a firmware issue, and how can I get my data recovered?
