One WD Elements Basic Storage (1TB) WDBUZG0010BBK USB 3.0 File System NTFS
One WD Elements Desktop (1TB) WDBAAU0010HBK USB 2.0 File System NTFS
One Samsung BD-P1580 - Blu-ray
Now to the mystery:
WD Elements Desktop WDBAAU0010HBK USB 2.0 File System NTFS allows me to play films via the USB connection of Samsung BD-P1580 - Blu-ray
WD Elements Basic Storage (1TB) WDBUZG0010BBK USB 3.0 NEW File System NTFS is not being recognised by Samsung BD-P1580 - Blu-ray consequently I cannot use it to view films via the USB connector.
Please note: Both WD Elements use the NTFS File systems but only one is being recognised by Samsung Blu-Ray.
The newer HDD … will be using GPT (GUID Partition Table)
The older HDD … will be using MBR (Master Boot Record) Partition Table
All new / recent WD HDD’s now use GPT.
To compare the two HDD’s and see if they are MBR or GPT
Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Disk Management
right-click on Disk 0 and select Properties.
Select the Volumes tab.
The Partition style: entry will show as either Master Boot Record (MBR) or GUID Partition Table (GPT).
So, if the non-Sony Bluray compatible HDD is GPT … 2 options
Delete the GPT Partition (this will wipe all your data) and create a MBR Partition and format the drive NTFS
3rd Party Software like EaseUS Partition Master can directly convert GPT disk to MBR disk without any data loss. But in saying that, i would still advise having a backup of your data “in case” something goes wrong.
Ending Note: If successful after doing this and is working with your Sony Bluray Player … the largest hard drive you will be able to use is 2TB. MBR only supports 2TB or less … GPT support sizes up to, and Over 2TB.
