I have two, new 2gb passport ultras and both fail the Dell PC Checkup funnel seek test and both fail the SeaTools Short Generic test. Anyone seen this behaviour?
Hello gwallace123, to be sure also run a test using DLG, to do the test connect connect the Passport USB cable directly to the PC, avoid using USB extension cables or USB hubs. Check the link below for the steps.
How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows
They passed the WD tests. My concern is their failure in the other test.
Also the tests were run with the WD USB3 cable attached directly to the USB adapter card (no hub).
Hi again, if the DLG test passed you shouldn’t worry. If you want you can also share mode detailed results from the other tests.
So, you are saying the results of the SeaTools and Dell PC Checkup tests are not indicative of a problem with the passport ultra drives? Also, I do not understand what you mean by “you can also share mode detailed results from the other tests.”
If the Passport passed the DLG test you can rule out any hardware problems. Are you having any problems with accessing your files? I mentioned the other tests in case you missed sharing any additional information from the results you got.
I contacted WD support and they recommended replacing the drives. They had no explanation for the failure of the tests.
Was finally contacted by someone at a higher level of WD support. They said the drive’s failure in the funnel seek and Seatools test should not be a concern. They said as long as the drive passed the WD Drive Utilities tests the drive could be trusted.
