as the title says, I have a 2tb Passport that was formatted to MAC only, from what I can remember. Just recently i bought a pc and the passport will connect to the pc… kinda… but when it does, it remains unnamed, unrecognized, and unable to be opened or used. The PC doesn’t even say that I have an unrecognizable device installed, it just accepts it but never names it or gives it a letter in the control panel.
My computer said that it downloaded all the drives successfully.
How do I successfully accomplish both tasks…
Reformat the passport to work with PC
Keep all the data and files that are on the passport and be able to view them from the pc
I don’t know of any way to convert the drive without destroying the data. You might look for software to use the drive on Windows as is but I don’t know of any free version. MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive is one.
So what would you suggest as the best way to reformat the passport and save the data?
What if I took all the data off the passport and put it back on the old mac… Then reformatted the passport to the FAT so that it is compadable with both mac and pc… then downloaded the data again to the passport and then got rid of the mac?
please advise. My goal is to be able to view these pictures and videos from my pc, even though they were first downloaded onto the mac
Putting the data back on the Mac and reformatting Passport FAT32 would work but the largest file size for FAT32 is 4 gig. I don’t have any experience with exFAT. FAT32 also has a drive size limit to deal with. Checkout exFAT and see if that would work for you. I don’t think it has the same file and drive size linimt of FAT32.
