Ok I hate raid now, I’ve just realised it’s useless. If id had two separate drives daisy chained together on a scheduled backup I would still have a working backup of my data that I lost in this whole WD Mavericks mess. On the basis that RAID manages two drives as if it were one makes your data totally vulnerable when the software tells the drive to format itself.
I would like to know if the mybook enclosures will work with only one drive installed. I don’t want to use RAID 0 as that actually increases my chance of failure and RAID 1 is useless as per the above reasons.
I just want to run single drive units now and either have to repurchase a mybook studio and never use any WD software or run one HD in a bloated purpose built raid enclosure.
Is this possible? Your help is required and appreciated.
Urgh… Yet more time and energy wasted pondering how to get back up and running after WD’s big time balls up.
