Hi. How is everyone? I bought a used western digital hard drive on ebay and it comes with a password. Is there anyway to wipe the drive clean and start over?
If it is a single My Cloud. Do a factory restore. Which is a 40 second reset. With power removed use a paper clip to hold the reset button and apply power. Hold the reset button for 40 seconds. This will return the device to the factory default. The password will be welc0me. note that is a zero not an o.

Is the reset button on the back for the plugs? It said password hint the same and I put in wec0me hoping that was it lol. Looking for a paper clip.
Yes , there is a small hole below the network plug socket.
What specificly did you buy? Does it look like this:

Or is it a USB external hard drive?
For the single bay My Cloud units like the one in the image above one can do a 4 second or 40 second reset via the reset button on the back of the unit to set the device password (used for accessing the My Cloud Dashboard) to default (blank).
My hard drive is black. I’m looking at reset options on the pictures of that link thanks.
It’s a my book essential 2.0 1tb
I did it! I opened western digital security and put in wrong password 5 times. Then it gave me the option to change password and erase data. Then I formatted the drive. Thanks so much.
