I’m running out of options trying to get this thing to work. Got this drive in december for the sole purpose of using as a HDD for my Xbox One. Tried formatting a few days ago, Xbox wouldn’t do anything with it.
Tried reformatting on PC, tried writing 0s to the drive, nothing.
Installed SmartWare, it says there is no writable partition
There is no unallocated space, in fact it is negative.
Through my searches I’ve found nothing that addresses my (unique?) issue
windows formatting isnt the best, I would try another software ( I use easeus partition manager) it works faster and more reliable and windows , that’s my oppinion.
Have had the exact problem a few years back, sorry I haven’t got the proof, jpg on it, the properties showed a 500gb disc had negative -7000PB ! PetaByte :smileyvery-happy:
EaseUS does nothing but crash everytime I try to open it. It did, however, succeed in installing a bunch of spyware on my computer. Will investigate other third party partition managers.
Forgot to mention: Yes, WD Diagnostics sees the drive. This is the utility I used to try to zero out the drive, which failed.
Installed a program called MiniTool Partition. Every action I did would move to “pending actions” and just not do anything. The only thing that would do anything was partition recovery. After 3 days of letting it work, the program crashed at 99%
This is mainly my fault for waiting 8 months to try to use the device, otherwise I would’ve just returned it. I just done understand why I can’t format a HDD to do what I want it to do. I realize it’s designed as a backup drive, but it won’t do that either! I’ll be staying away from WD drives until this SmartWare nonsense is left out of their products.
I’ll be taking my business elsewhere and make sure the drive works immediately. Once that is done, this drive will be obliterated into a million pieces and I can upgrade to Windows 10 with one less headache to worry about.
