drive isn’t recognised by my 2 big screen TVs or my media player. "Not Compatible)… Before I decide to take it back to the store as I may have purchased the wrong driver, I just want to check that I may have missed something else.

Basically boils down to a few questions about your TV and HDD
Is your HDD GPT Partitioned ?
Does your TV Support GPT Partitions ?
Have you tried re-partitioning/formating to MBR Partitions ?
