My USB flash drive not showing up on Mac

I’ve been having a strange issue with my USB flash drive. After I connect it to my MacBook, sometimes it shows up, but other times it doesn’t appear at all. I usually have to unplug and replug it several times before it’s recognized.

This problem started right after I upgraded macOS. I had been using Ventura without any issues, but after updating to the beta version of macOS Tahoe, the problem began.

Is there any way to fix this problem? Do I really need to spend another $80 to buy a new USB drive, or is it more likely related to the macOS update? Thanks in advance!

Note: The drive I’m using is a SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive Go USB Type-C™ – 1TB.

Sounds like your issue is the Beta version of macOS Tahoe and not the USB drive itself. I would suggest to keep the beta versions updated all the way into the final release of macOS 26 Tahoe access the issue then.

This error may be caused by an incompatible file system, USB connection issues, Finder settings, or an outdated NTFS driver. To troubleshoot, you can try the following steps:
1. Adjust Finder preferences

  1. Check the USB connections
  2. Update or downgrade macOS Tahoe
  3. Reset NVRAM and SMC
  4. Repair the drive using Disk Utility
  5. Manually mount the drive in Terminal

It’s possible that the macOS Tahoe beta issues; there’s a public version available now, you can try to update your macOS to the latest version. If the problem is still there, try other troubleshooting. Here’s a video guide.
Hope this can be helpful.

Sounds more like the macOS beta is the culprit than your USB drive. Since it worked perfectly on Ventura and only started acting up after you jumped to the Tahoe beta, I wouldn’t rush to spend another $80 just yet.

I would suggest check Disk Utility or run diskutil list in Terminal when the drive is connected, sometimes it’s recognized by the system even if Finder hides it. Also, plug directly into your MacBook instead of a hub, and try different ports.

This guide can help as this is for SD card, but functions both for Flash drive. Solved: SD Card not Showing up on Mac or Disk Utility

I have the same issue my Dual Drive Luxe 256Gb, is not recognized on OSX 26.01, but with Parallele on the same Mac I can use it….. But on my old MackBooPro on Sequoia no issue. I bought a new Dual Drive Luxe 256Gb, it works FINE on OSX 26.01……. The old was made in Malaysia, and the new one (working one) in China.

Sandisk do you have clue to solve ? Can you send me a new usb Stick ? to replace my old one ?

That’s very interesting. Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? Can the drive be seen in Disk Utility and Mount in Safe Mode? What about mounting using diskutil command line? Any errors when attempting to mount?

Of course, warranty replacement is an option for drive in warranty.

Yes I tried everything, fortunately the shop send my money back. Maybe old ones made in Malaysia have other chip inside….
