My Passport Wireless Pro - can’t see password on label, seems to have deteriorated or rubbed off.
Is there anyway to find burnt in number of MPWP?

Looks like the default password is the last 8 digits of the serial number, if you can still read that.
Unfortunately I can’t read it, I obviously could when I bought it new. Its just faded over time. I not even exposed to light, it’s always been in my laptop bag. I can get in it because I changed the password but if it needs to be reset I’ve had it.
So you can connect and get your files off? Can you connect using USB?
If so, try downloading CrystalDiskInfo. Unless you’re a fan, I suggest the Standard Edition.
Connect the drive using USB, then run CrystalDiskInfo.
Select the drive if more than one. You should see the serial number in one of the fields.
Can’t be sure if the serial number on the drive itself is the same as the serial number for the Passport. Likely not so, but you’d have something.
Looks like support for it ends this year so perhaps it’s time to consider an alternate device.
Yeh i can access the drive fully via WiFi or USB. I was wondering if there was a file on the drive somewhere which showed serial number and password.
I’ll try what you suggested.
I agree it’s probably ready for the scrap bin.
Thanks
I just tried crystadiskinfo, I’m pretty sure the password is the last 8 characters of the serial number. I checked on my iPhone in the password manager and found a password for wd.co.uk which is the same as the las 8 digits of the serial number.
I’m not going to try and reset the drive encase it doesn’t work. Good to know though for other people who need to reset.
Thanks
Glad you found it. Agreed, no need to test it.
