My Passport Ultra Not Recognised!

Hi there…really hope someone can help! Seems to be happening to a lot of people!

I bought My Passport Ultra 2TB about 2 months ago and all was fine until yesterday it stopped working. I plug the hardrive in to my 1 year old HP laptop and its not recognised…Tried on another laptop…Nothing!

Any suggestions please? It’s not as if i can even format it because it doesnt even show up on MY COMPUTER.

When plugged in…Light comes on and laptop gives me a beep to let me know somethings connected but i see nothing.

Pleeeeeeeeease Help! :frowning:

It’s easy…

Apparently you’ve disconnected your WD My passport during a critical procedure (or something)

What you need to do is (for win7)

  1. open Control Panel

  2. go to System security

  3.  click on Administrative tools

  4. Go into Computer management

  5. Click on Device manager

  6. Open Disk Drive. You should be able to see your WD MyPassport here (from the sound the computer makes it’s obvious that it can find it but cannot run the program)

  7. Right click on the WD MyPassport and chose uninstall. Beware: This will wipe your disk clean.

8. unplug your harddrive from your USB 

  1. Plug in and let Win7 find and install new drivers and voila!

If I do the uninstall, all my files are gone, right?

Hi there!i’m having the same problem…how can i retrieve my files on my HDD…

Are you referring to the backup software? If yes, no, uninstalling the software wont erase the files on the drive.
